Position title: Principal Environmental Advisor (Norway)
Reporting to: ESG Manager
Location: Norway

Job Purpose Statement:
Our client are building a global renewable energy and green hydrogen business. Successfully developing a global
portfolio of renewable energy projects will require prudent project development efforts that accord the highest
environmental standards. Their projects will be required to meet all relevant external governance obligations
and achieve internal environmental best practice standards.
To support this, they are seeking a Principal Environmental Advisor. Reporting to the ESG Manager and working
closely with the approvals, communities and project teams, you will be accountable for advising on environmental
matter for the Norwegian portfolio. The key focus of the role will be working collaboratively with
the Environmental team, project development teams and consultants to ensure that all baseline
environmental studies and Environmental Impact Assessments are completed to national and international
standards.

You will provide guidance on baseline environmental studies and environmental impact assessment methodologies
specific to Norway regulations and local customs and practices. In addition, you will ensure that all project
developments comply with the internal environmental safeguards to ensure all internal and external requirements
are met. You will provide strategic advice on good international industry practice for environment performance and
work collaboratively across the business.

Key responsibilities include:
• Ensuring all internal and external requirements are met in relation to:
o Environmental impact assessments, environmental baseline studies and environmental
management, for all projects in the region, in collaboration with the project team, corporate support
teams, and regional leadership.
o Environmental stakeholder management / relationship management as it relates to projects.
• Providing strategic advice on “good international industry practice” for environmental performance.
• Ensuring projects are compliant with lender environmental and standards such as IFC, Equator Principles,
World Bank, the Green Hydrogen Standard and internal environmental requirements.
• Overseeing the implementation and management of environment risk registers across the region.
• Performing ad hoc assurance reviews of the projects in the region, monitoring compliance to the various
applicable required standards.
• Internal environmental reporting.
• Conduct environmental constraints assessments for early-stage project phases.
• Developing and managing project related environmental scopes of work (I.e., Flora, fauna).
• Manage consultants and contractors over multiple varied projects and locations.
• Communicate environmental standards and policies internally.
• Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Key Competencies
• A degree in applicable discipline e.g. Environmental Science.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience leading and successfully delivering ESIAs covering marine and terrestrial environments for
large-scale projects in Norway and/or the European Region. Preference having worked on energy
development projects in the region.
• Experience in working with international lender performance standards such as IFC, Equator Principles,
World Bank, would be an advantage.
• Experience with negotiations involving various government stakeholders eg applicable Government
Ministries, environmental bodies (e.g. Norwegian Environment Agency).
• Project management experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Norwegian.
• Flexible and cooperative with a well-developed team spirit.
• Ability and willingness to work extended hours and to travel across the region as and when required by the
role.
