Case study content

The Liza Field is located in the Stabroek Block based 120 miles offshore Guyana in depths of up to 1,900 meters of water. To be built in phases, the first phase of the Liza Field Project is due to start producing in 2020.

Guyana Basin in relatively unexplored with little drilling activity so far, but analysis of data after the 1970s indicated the presence of oil and gas. The Stabroek field is now estimated to contain 2.25 – 2.75 billion oil-equivalent barrels.

The Liza field is expected to contain up to 1.4 billion metric barrels of recoverable oil equivalent. The first well was drilled in May 2015, the second in June 2016, the third in October 2016, and the fourth in March 2017. The Liza-4 well found a large volume of high-quality reservoirs which could potentially underpin a phase 2 development.

The Liza Project will include 17 wells in total (production, water injections, and gas) and an FPSO vessel with production capacity of up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day and store up to 1.6 million barrels of processed crude.
