POSITION TITLE:  Controls & Automation Engineer – Drilling Rigs

They are at the forefront of innovation and technology in the drilling industry. They are currently growing their engineering team based at their corporate office in Houston and looking to hire a Controls & Automation Engineer with drilling rigs experience to help expand on their automation capabilities.

Controls & Automation Engineer – Drilling Rigs
  • Report to the Controls and automation manager helping to design, develop, and implement drilling rig control systems, both hardware and software
  • While developing new programs, additional responsibilities will include maintaining, troubleshooting, and fixing existing systems
  • Develop controls algorithms, PLC software, and HMI development
  • Work closely with customers to understand needs and work towards project specifications
  • Travel to drilling rig work sites for hands on support and troubleshooting
  • Work with engineering team on group projects as well as individual projects
Controls & Automation Engineer – Drilling Rigs
  • BS in Engineering; Electrical preferred
  • 10+ years of experience with control systems development with a strong background in drilling rigs
  • Strong experience with PLC/HMI development and configuration
  • Experience developing controls algorithms
  • Experience with Siemens S7, Omron PLC, Wonderware preferred
  • Experience with VFD’s, AC drives, and other drilling equipment
  • Strong from start to finish systems; systems, loop, block, and network diagrams
  • Ability to travel 20-30%
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
