Strategic Procurement Manager - Powertrain
An opportunity has arisen within the Central division of the Alexander Dennis Limited for the position of Strategic Procurement Manager – Powertrain, based at our Guildford Chassis Assembly Facility reporting to the Group Procurement Director.
With the need for cleaner and more efficient buses increasing year after year, the world of commercial automotive powertrain systems is changing constantly. Alexander Dennis is seeking a passionate and dynamic procurement professional capable of defining and delivering the strategy that will take the business to the next level.

This is a vital strategic role for the company and the successful candidate will be a qualified mechanical or electrical engineer who has subsequently developed their career commercially and already has experience of buying or supplying powertrain systems. They will need to demonstrate knowledge of how global automotive powertrain systems are changing as a result of e-mobility and offer procurement insight on the best global commodity strategies for these.
They will need to be a dynamic leader within their field and be keen to shape the future procurement strategy for Alexander Dennis.
As a key member of the central Procurement team the individual will be expected to:
? Manage and collaborate with an executive stakeholder community, using your relationship building and influencing skills to gain and maintain crucial buy in and support for major strategic sourcing / procurement and category management initiatives
? Skilfully handle complex £ multi-million procurement deals with Blue Chip suppliers
? Design and execute category plans, including strategic sourcing, contract renewals & extensions, terminations and dispute resolution, as well as exciting 'go-to-market' procurement projects
? Utilise effective SRM to optimise supplier performance and results
? Provide leadership and professional training & development of staff
The successful candidate should have the following attributes and be able to demonstrate experience of the following:
? Degree qualified engineer
? Several years’ experience of proven commodity management and procurement - including global sourcing, supplier selection & qualification, supplier negotiation, supplier relationship management
? Experience of buying or supplying diesel or electric powertrain systems including engines, traction batteries, traction motors, transmissions, axles, braking, steering & suspension systems, in commercial vehicle automotive, would be an advantage
? Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills aligned to the level of the role being sought
? First class negotiation and influencing skills
? Ability to plan activities, meet deadlines and deliver results
? Familiar with TCOO models and principles
? Familiar with contract law
