Job Description

MAIN FUNCTIONS

The Loss Prevention/Risk Engineer works in close cooperation with the Loss Prevention/Risk Specialist to help oversee all risk management and loss prevention elements of the Project.  This position assists in the development and maintenance of the Project's Risk Management Plan and Loss Prevention Philosophy. The Risk/Loss Prevention Engineer helps to ensure that the EPC Contractors' loss prevention plans are developed, effectively implemented and monitored; and they provide loss prevention and risk assessment support to other project disciplines, and keeps the Project Managers, Engineering Manager and Area Leads informed of risk or loss prevention matters that could potentially jeopardize Project Objectives. The role is characterized by:

  • Provides supervision and directs the work activities of the engineers supporting the utility systems and overall Utility Area
  • Reviews Contractor Deliverables and is responsible for providing and coordinating Company comments for the Utility Area
  • Ensures that the Utility Area/Systems are engineered and designed consistent with the Job Specification and Regulatory requirements
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES         

Responsibilities of the LP/Risk Engineer shall include the following:

  • Assists in the interpretation of Industry Standards for :
    • Storage tank protection (including Heavy Hydrocarbon Condensate, LNG, Ammonia, etc.)
    • Spacing and layout requirements
    • Fireproofing and Cold Splash Protection
    • Relief and flare including isolation and depressurizing
    • Survival systems, escape, evacuation and rescue
    • Fire and gas detection and alarm systems
    • Fire extinguishers and fire fighting
    • Fire water systems, foam systems, FM200 systems, and water mist
    • Passive fire protection
    • Drains and sampling
    • Site containment and drainage
    • Shutdown systems
    • HIPPS systems
    • SIL assignment
  • Works with the E&R Group to ensures compliance with all FERC permits/requirements
  • Help to maintain Loss Prevention Philosophy document and give direction to PT and contractors
  • Review consequence studies completed by Contractor using PHAST and FLACS software
  • Work with regulatory group to understand in FERC regulations for loss prevention systems
  • Work with the Engineering Manager and Area Leads to integrate loss prevention studies into and overall project Risk Plan
  • Work with the detailed engineering contractor to verify compliance with the Loss Prevention Philosophy and to respond to contractor queries
  • Assist in reviewing deliverables produced by the detailed engineering contractor
  • Verify loss prevention studies to be conducted by subcontractors are correctly scoped out and results implemented
  • Perform onsite check of facilities at 50% and 90% complete stage to verify equipment built as designed
  • Attend / input into HAZOPs and risk assessments as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Risk Management and Loss Prevention engineering principles, theories, and concepts
  • Broad and extensive knowledge of:
  • Design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria
  • practices, processes, and expectations with respect to LP/Risk engineering
  • 10+ years of closely related professional engineering experience
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of loss prevention principles to facility equipment and hardware
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, database, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to read, write, and speak fluent English
