Position Description

This division of a specialist power generation / distributor was set-up to develop and deliver an integrated energy management solution for  large energy users  in UK and Ireland. They design, develop and delivers tailored solutions  which include energy efficiency, on-site generation and demand management technologies and  work in partnership with our customers to create long term shared value.

Due to continued growth and customer expansion, we’re seeking an enthusiastic Engineer to work on-site at one at one of their key customer sites.  The end client is a multi-site operation and operate a number of large processing facilities in North West Region with an Energy Consumption of approximately 125000MWh PA.  The successful candidate will be based at one of their main facilities in the North West but may be required to travel to other locations to meetings etc. including to  Head Office in Dublin.  The appointment will initially be for a period of 6 months but may be extended if the project requires.

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of designing and working on Heating & Cooling/Combined Heat and Power installations and building services within both commercial and industrial facilities. A background in energy management along with a knowledge of facility and asset operation and maintenance would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will require a strong safety culture in the design and delivery of solutions as well as strong technical skills in the area of energy efficiency, with an eye for detail and good design solutions.  He/she will be required to work as part of and/or with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to provide the most suitable solution for the client.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake specific projects to assess and gather existing data, design and specify improvements and/or upgrade of existing boilers and CHP systems up to and including reworking of existing configurations and replacement of existing installations.  The output will be driven by energy saving and improved efficiency for the plant in question.  In addition, the client wishes to examine the possibility of reducing CO2 emissions through redesign of existing processes and the introduction of updated technology.  The scale of the proposed works is approximately €6-8m over 3 projects.  In short; in conjunction with the wider engineering team, you will produce specific work packages for each project to include designs/calculations, sketches as required and a specification for each project.

In addition, from time to time you may be requested to carry out some Measurement & Verification on existing installations on site.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience



CHP / Combined Heat and Power knowledge and experience

The ability to effectively survey a site with a view to cost and installation

At least 5 years' experience in energy efficiency design and installation

A proven ability to develop the implementation of technical installations

Understanding & knowledge of energy management, energy efficiency and distributed generation and the implementation of same

Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills


An ability to manage and deliver energy services to public and private sector customers technologies

Experience or Knowledge of facility and/or asset management, Operation and Maintenance

ISO 50001 implementation and SI 426 Auditing experience

Knowledge of project support opportunities e.g. EXCEED, Climate Action Fund Etc.



Relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in Energy Engineering or similar technical discipline.

Minimum five years relevant industry experience


This role will be based on a customer site, based in the North West of Ireland. Some travel may be required from time to time.
