Facilities Manager

Position Summary: 

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the availability, reliability and support of building utilities, facilities services and Repository equipment for the operational areas of the organisation. On a day to day basis this will be achieved through the management, coaching and development of the facility team along with the introduction of appropriate technology and working practices. These activities will be carried out in accordance with current statutory, regulatory and company safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of all major plant (e.g. generators, HVAC, air handling, BMS, temperature monitoring and security systems)
  • Ensuring all mechanical refrigeration units are maintained and all LN2 vessels are checked daily and filled appropriately
  • The role carries responsibility for the support in the Facilities Department of delivering "state of the art" technology to support the facility development and growth
  • Lead role in the site On-Call requirements (24/7 on a rotating cycle with other team members)
  • Act as main site key holder
  • Ensure monitoring equipment calibration and validation schedules are maintained
  • Responsible for designing protocols for maintenance and calibration
  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules for all plant and equipment
  • Ensuring adequate, accurate documentation for all procedures is maintained
  • Line management responsibility for Facilities Technicians
  • Management of all on site contractors
  • Responsible for the control of all maintenance contracts utilising cost control practices where applicable
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with HSE statutory, regulatory and company regulations
  • Ensure all changes to safety legislation are incorporated and implemented within the framework of the Site Health & Safety Policy Organisation and Arrangements.
  • General maintenance and repairs around the site
  • To carry out all duties in compliance with required quality standards
  • To identify and implement technology based and working practice solutions designed to reduce the overall cost per unit measures
  • To lead, participate and contribute to Continuous Improvement (PPI) projects that deliver the business objectives in a cost effective manner
  • To participate Leadership team meetings and other projects
  • To participate in client audits and facility presentations as required

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • British Institute of Facilities Management qualification level 4/5
  • Project Management Qualification (APMP or equivalent)

Essential Experience: 
  • Controlled environment storage and distribution operations
  • Controlled walk in storage environments
  • Standalone Ultra Low Temperature (ULT) and cryogenic (LN2) equipment
  • Validated temperature monitoring systems
  • Experience of HVAC, refrigeration systems
  • Working within regulated manufacturing environments
  • Strong leadership management and communication skills
  • Project management
  • Budget management including CAPEX and OPEX budget development and execution
  • Establishment and management of service providers, including service level agreements
  • Implementation and compliance with safe systems of work
  • Management of staff, including their development
  • 5 years’ experience as Facilities Manager

Although not essential, the following skills and experience would be preferred: 
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification would be preferable but not essential
  • Experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, PPI)
