£46,000 –- Days Based Role

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Solves complex engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering principles
  • Technical stakeholder leading the system level reviews working within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality and reliability objectives
  • Works independently with minimal supervision on routine activities.  Receives guidance on unusual/complex issues and approval on plans and larger scale designs.
  • Collaborates with groups outside of direct responsibilities including other engineering groups, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, etc.  May serve as a contact point for outside vendors.
  • Committed to the Shingo/SBS Model principles, and applies the tools and concepts.
 

DUTIES

Technical Axis:

  • Performs analyses, resolves issues using problem solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for our Customers.
  • Solves complex engineering problems by applying a broad knowledge of engineering principles
  • Determines technical feasibility of new product concepts.
  • Overall technical leadership and responsibility for the technical realization of a new / substantially evolved existing product/feature.
  • Drives refinement/ translation of stakeholder requirements (Customer, safety, reliability, clinical, serviceability, manufacturability, quality etc.), requirements management policies of the program and quality of requirements, development of technical approach, top level design, feasibility of potential technical solutions, and allocation of derived requirements (including functionality, interface specifications and design budgets) onto affected subsystems.
  • Plans, oversees and executes the Systems Engineering activities in the project, including Initiation, coordination, synchronization, review and integration of the technical work performed within various Engineering disciplines
  • Leads cross-discipline feasibility and tradeoff studies.
  • Drives system-level design & technical reviews.
  • Leads derivation/budgeting/allocation of system/subsystems requirements and interfaces.
  • Leads defect management, risk management, usability activities
  • Leads the preparation of documentation, including configuration documentation, DHF etc.
  • Leads system integration (follow up, analysis, problem solving), verification and validation.
  • Defines testing requirements and strategy and drives formal verification & validation.
 

Project Axis:

  • Within an engineering team, has complex responsibilities and manage their execution in line with project needs
  • Works on complex projects requiring innovative solutions.
  • May represent R&D as NPD core team member.
  • May plan subtasks/small projects
  • Works independently with minimal supervision on routine activities.  Receives guidance on unusual/complex issues and approval on plans and larger scale designs.
  • Technical stakeholder leading the system level reviews working within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality and reliability objectives
 

Management Axis:

  • Has no direct reports
  • Leads technical staff (Technicians, Designers, Engineers)
  • Collaborates with groups outside of direct responsibilities including other engineering groups, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, etc.  May serve as a contact point for outside vendors.
 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Professional Certification
  • Typically two (2) years of experience are required for each year of a degree program. If applicable, indicate years of relative experience with degree and without degree.
  • In a numbered list, describe specific work experience requirements; include years of experience for each requirement:
  • Minimum three progressive years of experience in Systems engineering or minimum five progressive years of experience in capital equipment development.
  • Three plus years involvement in a multi-discipline project development environment.
  • Three plus years of engineering experience in one area and deep understanding in a second one (like SW/ EE/ME).
  • Preferred: Five progressive years of experience in Systems engineering.
 

Skills and/or business competencies:

  • Systems thinking acuity
  • Demonstrated ability in technical analysis including evaluation of multiple candidate solutions and significant evaluation of intangibles
  • Ability to propose methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to realize product functionality
  • Proven technical leadership in matrix environment
  • Excellent communication, influencing and conflict resolution skills
  • Preferred: Six Sigma training
  • Preferred: Systems modelling training
