I&C Engineer - Long Beach 

My client is seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer with extensive experience in the Oil & Gas and refinery industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining instrumentation and control systems for various O&G and refinery projects.
As an I&C Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and specification of instrumentation and system design. A strong grasp of relevant codes and standards such as ISA, API, and NFPA, coupled with hands-on experience in safety instrumented systems (SIS), distributed control systems (DCS), and programmable logic controllers (PLC), is essential.

Qualifications and Skills: 
  • Education: bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field. An advanced degree or certification in Control Systems or Process Automation is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as an engineer, with three years of focus in instrument engineering.
  • Instrument Engineering: Strong knowledge of instrument engineering principles, practices, and international standards (e.g., API, ISA, IEC). Experience in analyzer engineering is a plus.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and end-users. Strong documentation skills to create clear and concise technical reports and guidelines.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities. Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and explore new technologies and methodologies.
  • Others: Understanding process control systems, distributed control systems (DCS), and safety instrumented systems (SIS) is a plus.
Responsibilities and Duties:

The following are considered prominent roles and responsibilities of the Instrument Engineer:
  • Design, develop, and implement instrumentation and control systems for O&G and refinery projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to integrate I&C systems into overall project designs.
  • Participate in risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Provide technical support during project installation, commissioning, and startup phases, troubleshooting any issues.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, P&ID, drawings, and reports, to communicate design requirements and project progress.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and instrumentation and control engineering best practices.
  • Design, select, and specify instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, and safety shutdown systems, ensuring compliance with client and industry standards.
  • Attends field verification and user requirements gathering walk-downs.
Physical Requirements: 
  • Travel by car to local refineries and plants
  • Standing/walking around operation units while wearing PPE
